Keen observers will have noticed I’ve flipped the colour scheme of the site from light to dark. Let me know if you like it, hate it, or plain don’t care.
UPDATE: That experiment didn’t last long. I didn’t really like it myself, and the one comment I received was not in favour. So I’ve toned down the dazzling brightness by making the background and menu bar a pale grey.
Light on dark is always more difficult to read. Good design mean accessibility, and anything you do to reduce accessibility is bad design. A personal example: a font size that’s comfortable for me to read when the print is black on a light background may be too uncomfortable for me to read when it’s reversed. If it wasn’t for the “Reader” feature in Safari, I wouldn’t even bother to read long posts on a site that violates this basic rule.
Thanks for the comment! It is harder to read, absolutely. I’m not sure I like it. I find the old one a bit bright, though, and I seem to recall mainly-white websites use more energy. I’ll keep experimenting. Maybe there’s a middle ground 🙂
